The festival kicks off at 9 a.m. with a children's parade - think pint-sized floats, bikes, wagons and scooters - followed by an opening ceremony at 9:30 saluting the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
"We've just always called it the Blast - it refers to the fireworks and coming out to have a blast," said Jacobus resident Lori Starz, who helped organize the event.
Proceeds from the day - including a silent auction and raffle - will benefit the children's sports programs through the JLS Recreation Association, a municipal organization for Jacobus, Loganville and Springfield Township, she said.
Activities include face painting, children's and teen games, a dunk tank, a children's tractor pull, a cake walk and blood-pressure screenings. The Village Library's book sale will set up under the park pavilion for the day.
The Jacobus Fire Company will be selling chicken barbecue, and the Junior Fire Company has organized a "car smash" - pay a small fee and take a swing at a car with a sledgehammer.
Aspiring pageant contestants can sign up at 9:30 for the 10 a.m. Lil' Miss and Mister JLS Pageant.
Also at 10, Jacobus Mayor Gregory Gruendler will throw out the first pitch in the Susquehanna League's Jacobus vs. Hallam baseball game, which is expected to run through 12:30 p.m. on the park field.
Five local bands will perform throughout the day to compete for the Battle of the Bands first-place prize, which is $500. Festival-goers can pay a $1 to cast their vote for their favorite act, and the winner will be announced between 8 and 9 p.m. shortly before the half-hour fireworks show, Starz said.
"It's just a community-driven event. It's a family day - fun for families that come out and celebrate our community," she said.
