But instead of featuring only his artwork, Walczyk - the organization's first vice president - thought it might be more fun to invite other member photographers to participate in the exhibit.
The Mind's Eye: 5 Photographers and Their Vision opened Jan. 13 at the Nancy M. Woodward Gallery in York and runs until Feb. 9. The exhibit features about 75 photos by Walczyk, Don Moore, Linn Van Wicklen, Beth Line and Patricia Teller.
Walczyk said opening the exhibit to other photographers created diversity in subject and style.
For example, he said, his work is probably the most eclectic, including straight-forward photos made with standard techniques to ones that are highly manipulated and composited. His style ranges from realism to abstract.
In the exhibit, Walczyk included four still lifes, five aerial shots that he took from a commercial flight and five manipulated pieces of patterns of trees and lava flows.
He said Teller uses realistic subjects, but her work leans toward the abstract. In one of her pieces, she featured macro shots of large chunks of glass colored cobalt, sea green and white.
"We all work so differently, and have different approaches to photography and what we do with what we capture," Walczyk said.
He said the gallery usually arranges artwork by artist. But for this show, he wanted to blend the pieces to create a "huge range of very different work." The pieces are grouped by similarities, such as color and style.
"The reviewer can walk through and not start brushing over pieces," Walczyk said. "There's still a great flow." The artwork is for sale for $95 to $795. Some smaller prints also are available for $15 to $40.
The association's next exhibit - The Rottler Award Selection Exhibit - will open with a reception 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 24 at the gallery.
