The blues slide guitarist is used to traveling. He was born in Southern California, spent time in Seattle and found himself in North Carolina, where he has grown his fan base over the years.
"Most of my career has been in the Southeast United States," he said.
That's about to change.
"We're going full-time on the road," he said. "We got a camper and we're heading out."
The road will take Johnson to York this weekend. He'll be playing at the Cigar Box Guitar Festival on Saturday at the York Emporium, 343 W. Market St., York.
Johnson will also perform at 9 p.m. Friday at the Depot, 360 W. Cottage Place, York, and 9 p.m. Saturday at Mudhook Brewing Company, 34 N. Cherry Lane, York.
Johnson first picked up the guitar around a year ago. He was at a club in North Carolina.
"The owner wanted me to play one," he said. "I'd never played one before and I didn't even know how to tune it. ... Once I picked one up, I was completely fascinated by the sound of the music."
So he added the instrument to his repertoire.
"I'll bring as many as nine or 10 different stringed instruments when I play," he said.
