Chad-Allan Carr and the Gettysburg Community Theater are doing a dance - of the Time Warp variety.

As special guests at the Adams County Arts Council's masquerade ball, they will be performing scenes from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and embodying this year's theme - a night of horror.

Now in its 12th year, the masquerade ball is a fundraising event for the arts council.

It will be held 8 p.m.

Oct. 26 at the Gettysburg Hotel. Guests are encouraged to dress up in their best costume attire.

"It really highlights the creativity people show with their costumes," Chris Glatfelter, executive director of the arts council said. "It is really amazing."

Guests who dress up will be rewarded for their enthusiasm with a costume contest. Cash prizes will be given for the scariest, most creative and best group costumes. In the past, winning costumes have included the cast of "Gilligan's Island" and a group of jellyfish.

Several performers from the Gettysburg Community Theater adult class will serve as entertainment for the night, singing many of the songs from the movie, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

"It's going to be a lot of fun," said Carr, the theater's director. "We want the guests to participate in the Time Warp dance. It's going to be like a flash mob."

The Colgan-Hirsh Band with the Slammin' Horns also will be there to entertain the crowd. The group is an eight-piece band, complete with trumpet, guitar, saxophone, clarinet, flute, percussion and a vocalist.

In order to raise money for the arts council, the masquerade ball also will host an auction with items including: two tickets to the Jerry Seinfeld Show at the Hershey Theater with an overnight stay at the Hershey Hotel; a two night stay at the Hilton Club in New York City; tickets for "Stomp" at the Majestic Theater; as well as artwork, jewelry and gift certificates.

All of the items have been donated to the arts council for the auction.

"This is a very important fundraiser for our organization," Glatfelter said. "It supports our classes and programs in schools across the county."

For Carr, who loves performing "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," it is also an important event to celebrate the season.

"It is a classic cult horror film," Carr said. "Everyone is really excited about performing it."
