On Tuesday, Nov. 6, millions of voters will cast ballots for local, state and national candidates.
But civic duty can be hard work. It often involves waiting in line at polling places and braving wacky fall weather.
The end result - a chance to voice a political viewpoint - is usually worth any Election Day aggravation.
As a reward for voting, stay out after polls close at 8 p.m. Unwind, grab a drink, watch election coverage or try something else:
Discover local talent: Pretend to be a political operative and scout out the next voice of our generation at local open mike nights. The tunes last 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday at Maewyn's Irish Pub and Restaurant, 110 N. George St., York. Ronn Benway hosts Open Mike Night at 9 p.m. at Bistro 19, 19 N. George St., York.
Tease your brain: Stump your friends during your next debate about pop culture, historical facts and more. Trivia starts at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Granfalloons Tavern, 41 E. Princess St., York. Recruit a few pals for the chance to win prizes at team trivia, which starts at 9 p.m. Tuesday at Tailgaters Grille and Drafthouse, 204 St. Charles Way, York Township.
Wing it: We're done talking about Big Bird. Tackle tiny pieces of chicken Tuesday at Mudhook Brewing Co., 34 N. Cherry Lane, York. The brewpub features 50-cent wings with a selection of sauces made with beer,
including buffalo, barbecue and Cajun. Wash the wings down with one of Mudhook's seasonal brews featured in its Seven Barrel Series.
Keep your competitive edge: It's not quite 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., but it's close. Challenge your friends to a bowling game at Colony Park Lanes North, 1900 Pennsylvania Ave., York. It features a Terrific Tuesday special, which includes games for $1.85 each. While there, stop in at Brenn's Pub for some suds and snacks.
Register for tastebud votes: Think you can win votes with your fall-flavored culinary skills? Tuesday is the deadline to register for the 2012 Anything Pumpkin Cookoff Contest at The Valley Tavern, 1 Cherry St., Seven Valleys. Cost is $5 to register and proceeds go to the Seven Valleys Lions Club. Those interested can stop by the bar for a registration form or print one out from www.facebook.com/thevalleytavern and turn it in. The contest is 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 13. For details, call 717-428-2611.
Postponement: The Victory Brewing tap takeover at York's Holy Hound Taproom was postponed. A new date for the event has not been announced.
