From last night: Roads and sidewalks were mostly clear in downtown York after 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13. Most bars and restaurants remained closed, but a few opened for any brave souls who ventured out.
Christian Quinlivan of Liquid Hero Brewery said he was happy his bartender lives next door. Quinlivan said he didn't have trouble commuting from Manchester Township to open the brewpub at 4 p.m.
"There is something about snow and beer that go hand in hand," he added.
Mike and Rhonda Rhoads traveled from Hallam for the brew. They joked that they were going into withdrawal, since they hadn't had Liquid Hero beer in about two weeks.
Over at Holy Hound Taproom, about a dozen people sat at the bar.
Kate Lanphier and Matt Moul took a snow day Thursday. They live about a block away and said they probably would have come even without the snowstorm.
"Nothing else is open," Lanphier added.
But a few other places did open their doors, including First Capital Dispensing Co. and Esaan Thai Restaurant.
Jai Delp of Esaan said she didn't have trouble getting into York. Most people canceled their Thursday reservations at the downtown eatery, but some kept the date.
Delp said that Esaan is almost all booked for Valentine's Day. The restaurant will offer a prix fixe meal, a la carte options and its regular menu. Delp, who designed the menu, said she's looking forward to serving a scallop dish and a new dessert special.
