I'm the first to admit that my knowledge of Patti Smith beyond "Horses" was minimal before I read her 2010 memoir "Just Kids." Smith's artistic journey was inspiring and cut through many other 1960s narratives. The success of the book relaunched her career and served as a catalyst for her new album "Banga." (The special edition includes a track named after the book.) Smith recorded the CD with her backing band at Electric Lady Studios in New York City - the same place Smith got to know Jimi Hendrix many years ago. It features an ode to Amy Winehouse and a tune written by Johnny Depp.
