Where'd the name G-Don come from? Originally my name was LMG, that stands for Little Mike G. I got older, switched to G-Don because I'm kind of the leader of my group, so I ran with it. ... I'm gonna have to change it because my image doesn't match with my name. I do more positive songs. A don is a leader of a mafia organization, and I don't make that type of music.
How long have you been performing? I've been into music since I was about 6 years old. When I was that young, I was looking up to people like a group called Another Bad Creation and Kriss Kross. I didn't start writing until about the age of 11.
What/where do you draw your inspiration from when writing lyrics? Life experiences, current events as well as the sound of the music.
Worst song on the radio right now? "Chicken Noodle Soup" (by DJ Webstar). I hate that song. I was just mad because you have a lot of artists that are saying more and doing more, and they just went with it because it was catchy. Why are
If you could share the stage with any group or artist, who would it be and why? I'd have to say Pharrell Williams, Kanye West and Lil Wayne. Kanye, he's what I consider a real hip-hop musician. As for Lil Wayne, I've been listening to him since he was like 15. I've watched him evolve.
Plug one other local group or artist: P-Dub. His delivery is crazy, and he's very versatile. Of all the artists around here I've worked with, he's one of the most serious.
What would you change about the York County music scene? First off, there has to be some way to get these artists heard. We need to get the younger artists on stage and get a following because there are a lot of talented artists.
Talk about this special upcoming performance you have: It's for a show called "Making The Next Hit," and it's hosted by Chief Rocker Busy Bee and Lil Wayne. ... It's all about who's going to make the next hit, and they've gone to 23 different cities. I saw an article for the first tryout in Harrisburg at the last minute, so I called my partner up and said we had to go. I was the only person from York to go out. They were impressed with me, and I was the only artist they took a CD from. This next performance is to prove we're worthy of getting in the studio (for the next round). It's all about the performance.
What do you need to work on as an artist? Right now, I need to do more shows and definitely get radio play, which my management is working on. This show coming up will also help my press kit because I'll have a visual, and it'll be more solid.
Shoutouts: Space One Records, and everybody who's out there trying to make something with music.
If you go
