Starting Over

Band: Starting Over

Members: Tyler Barnett, vocals and bass; Dustin Mundis, guitar; Mike Frederick, drums

Who we talked to: Barnett

Where did the name come from? We were all in different bands before. Me and Dustin used to play shows together in different bands. We just decided that we were going to start over when we made this band

Can you describe your sound and style? We describe it as pop/punk. We pretty much just want to have fun. That's pretty much what it's all about.

How did you guys get together? It was about three years ago. We were all in different bands and our other bands played shows together. My band that I was in at the time broke up and Dustin wasn't really doing too much, so we decided to start the band. At first, it was just going to be an acoustic side project, but then we decided to bring drums in and it pretty much went from there.

Who are your influences? Band-wise it would probably be Blink 182, New Found Glory, All Time Low, The Starting Line and bands like . . . Fall Out Boy.

When you guys play out, do you play all originals or do you mix in some covers? We play all originals. We don't really ever play any covers.

Is there a local place you guys like to play? I'd probably say Club 19.

How do you feel about the York scene? When we first got started, people didn't really like us. They were more into the hardcore scene. We just are doing what we like and lately everybody has been coming around. More and more people are coming out to the shows, and everybody is starting to like us.

What's your best band memory? My best memory would probably be when we were down in Baltimore recording our CD. That was pretty fun. A time I will always remember is when we played shows and the kids were actually singing along to our songs.

If you could run the music industry for a day, what would you do? There are a lot of good bands out there that really work hard and never make it anywhere just because no one wants to give them a shot. A lot of the bands today started a year or two ago and are already on top. I think some of the hardworking bands deserve a chance.

Are there artists you can't stand? I like all sorts of music. I'm pretty much into anything.

What are your long-term goals? We want to be touring the country, just living up our dream. None of us are going to college; this is want we want to be doing with the rest of our lives. No matter what it takes, we want to try to get signed. We just want to make this dream come true.
