Bartenders tell us what beers they wish they had on tap

We asked some local bartenders if they could get one more beer on tap what it would be and why.

Here's what they had to say:

Holy Hound Taproom

Brad Hash's top pick would be a beer from the Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro, Vermont.

"They are world class," said Hash, manager and bartender at Holy Hound Taproom in York.

Last year, Hill Farmstead was named the best in the world by RateBeer.com. Owner and brewmaster Shaun Hill's craft beers are world-renowned and are sought after, but they are not shipped out of the state.

Customers would come out of the woodwork for Hill Farmstead beer if it was available at Holy Hound, Hash said.

Hill Farmstead does attract tourists and is undergoing a massive expansion, according to Boston Magazine, But the beer still will be distributed in the New England market.

"It's worth the trip," Hash said.

The Hodle

Bartender Kyle Hopkins misses beer from Mac and Jack's Brewery, which is on the West Coast. He drank it while he was stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington state.

"That was one of my favorite beers out there," said Hopkins, who is a bartender at The Hodle in New Freedom.

The beer he drank started with a hops taste, followed by an almost caramel aftertaste, Hopkins said.

"It was delicious," he said.

Mac and Jack's beer is only sold in Washington, Oregon and Idaho, according to the brewery's website. The business is based in Redmond, Wash.

One customer who came into The Hodle also had worked at the same base and remembered Mac and Jack's, too.

"He knew what I was talking about," Hopkins said.

Burning Bridge Tavern

Jodie Wise said she has never tasted Flying Dog Brewery beer, but would "love to try it."

She heard about the beer through Facebook and asked a distributor about it, said Wise, manager and bartender at the Burning Bridge Tavern in Wrightsville. But she was told her distributor couldn't get it.

The brewery is based in Frederick, Md.

One of the ales is infused with Old Bay, Wise said.

"That would be good with crabs," she said.
