Towne Singers celebrate the season


SHIPPENSBURG -- The Towne Singers will celebrate the the season with two concerts in the coming weeks.

At 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, the singers will perform at Memorial Lutheran Church, 34 E. Orange St., Shippensburg; and at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, they will sing at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Ave., Chambersburg.

Featured in the concerts will be a mix of works including the spirituals “For He Was Born,” by Ann Kapp Andersen, and “Go Tell It On the Mountain,” by Nicholas T. Vangeloff, as well as arrangements of familiar Christmas music such as Craig Courtney’s “While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks,” Mark Riese’s “Christmas Comes Anew,” and Dan Forrest”s “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.”

The Towne Singers, comprised of 29 singers from the area, are directed by Blaine Shover, professor of music at Shippensburg University, and are accompanied by pianist Valerie Merriman of Chambersburg and organist Nancy Fogelsanger of Shippensburg.
