Hanover Arts Guild shows Farm Show-inspired art

The Pennsylvania Farm Show is coming to Hanover with its own twist.

Handmade pieces that resemble farm life are on display at the Hanover Area Arts Guild through Feb. 2, said President Kim Asper. The guild partnered with the Adams County SPCA for the display and will raise money for the nonprofit throughout the month.

This is the first farm show theme the guild has had, Asper said.

"It's exciting since it's the 100th year for the farm show," she said. "We're taking something small and benefiting the community in numerous ways."

A member of the Adams County SPCA will be at the guild Jan. 9 for downtown Hanover's Second Saturday event, said Tammy Vanmeter, assistant manager of the SPCA. The goal is to meet visitors and share their mission of saving animals. An adoptable, four-legged guest will also tag along.

"We're all about it, I can't wait," she said.

Some of the pieces on display will include paintings, photography and an almost-full-size goat sculpture.

Asper said she left the idea of what to create up to her members. She told them, "whatever the farm show means to you," they could submit.

"Artists take an idea, and they can take it literally or in their own way," she said. "Some things I would've never thought of, but then you see it and say, 'It actually makes sense.'"
