Civil War roundtable among Adams winter events


Delve into history at a Civil War Roundtable 4 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Farnsworth House Inn, 401 Baltimore St., Gettysburg. The history of Balto Street will serve as the focus of the event, which will be led by licensed battlefield guide Tim Smith. The roundtable will take place in the main dining room, and a food and drink menu will be available. A $10 donation is suggested. Call 717-398-8960 for more information.

"Firmness, Endurance and Vigor" Civil War Exhibit: Featuring artifacts from Brigadier Gen. William Barksdale and Dr. Alfred Hamilton at Gettysburg, this free exhibit takes place starting Jan. 1 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through March. Hamilton's journal of treatment records for Barksdale, his personal identification tag and the bullet removed from the wounded Barksdale are a few items that will be on display at Gettysburg National Military Park, 1195 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg. Eisenhower National Historic Site operations for January and February: The National Park Service will allow visitors to drive to the Eisenhower National Historic Site on weekdays through Feb. 12. Operations at the site will return to normal Feb. 13, with all visits by shuttle bus only from the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center. The Eisenhower National Historic Site is located at Eisenhower Farm Road in Gettysburg. Hanover Go Red for Women Luncheon: Make Hanover "Go Red" for women's heart health by joining the American Heart Association for the 2015 Hanover Go Red for Women Luncheon 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Hanover Country Club, 200 E. Water St., Abbottstown. The annual luncheon will be emceed by Lori Burkholder of WGAL-TV and will feature educational and inspirational speakers, a silent auction, photo booth and other activities. 'It's Chili Out' at Adams County Winery: Warm up with a hot bowl of gourmet chili paired with Adams County Winery wines on Saturdays and Sundays in January from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Adams County Winery, 251 Peach Tree Road, Orrtanna.
