Franklin County weekend events

Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Service

Come and celebrate the ongoing spiritual impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and ministry at 3 p.m. this Sunday at the Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West. The event will include a speech from Bishop Roberta L. Thomas, senior pastor of Fountain Gate Church Ministries and overseer of Kingdom Covenant Ministries, music by the Chambersburg Area Senior High School Choristers, a presentation of student essays written in honor and recognition of King’s contributions and a special tribute to King dedicated by the YMCA Teen Achievers. There will be a reception following the service in the church social hall. For more information, contact Reverend Allie Harper at 717-267-3946 or Reverend William H. Harter at 717-264-3828.

Franklin County Art Alliance

This month's Franklin County Art Alliance meeting will feature a business meeting and a demonstration in acrylics by artist and educator Marti Yeager this Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Grove Family Library. Yeager is a full-time painter whose work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and other venues throughout the tri-state area and beyond. For many years, she has been teaching both public and private lessons and workshops in drawing and painting. She works in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor and printmaking with Penn’s Woods Printmakers. For more information, call 717-267-1396.

Footloose

The students of the Chambersburg Area Middle School North Drama Club are coming together for a special presentation of Footloose. Come out to Chambersburg Area Middle School to see this classic live on stage! The show will be performed this Friday and Saturday and tickets are $8. For more information, call 717-264-7886.

Frozen Frenzy

For the fourth consecutive year, Path Valley Outreach is holding its successful Frozen Frenzy - or as they describe it, "friends freezing for a reason." The event is not just an amusing plunge into the cold waters of the lake at Cowan's Gap State Park - it is also a way to support the community efforts of Path Valley Outreach to raise funds for scholarships for college-bound students. The event will be held this Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cowans Gap State Park and requires a donation of $50 per person or $200 for a team of five. For information and registration, call 717-491-7100 or visit www.pathvalleyoutreach.com.
