What's happening at IceFest 2016


Here is a schedule of events for the 14th annual Chambersburg IceFest, Jan. 28-31, 2016:

Ongoing during IceFest

-IceFest 2016 is bringing in the ICE! More custom designed ice sculptures on display than ever before throughout downtown (Presented by M&T Bank)

-LED Lights on the slide and ALL Giant Sculptures (sponsored by Franklin County Visitors Bureau)

-Pick up your Scavenger Hunt forms at The Council for the Arts, The Heritage Center or Here’s Looking at You

-If you’re interested in local history and want to know more, stop by the Heritage Center (100 Lincoln Way East). It is the starting point for exploring history in Franklin County and is a site on the PA Civil War Trails. There is also a gift shop with unique Chambersburg items. Open 8am-5pm Thu-Fri and 10am-3pm on Saturday

-An elementary art display that is part of CASD elementary art teacher, Erin Gillespie's exhibition of approximately 500 mixed media, watercolor, pastel and collage work by students in grades K-5 at Scotland and Grandview Elementary, will be on display at various businesses downtown, including the Council for the Arts.

-Many local businesses offer specials and extended hours.

-All events are free unless otherwise indicated by a dollar sign ($).

Thursday, Jan. 28

*Official IceFest opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony with presenting sponsor, M& T Bank (the square) FREE CAKE

5-8 p.m.

*Live giant sculpture carving (throughout downtown)

*FREE Double-Wide Ice Slide OPEN (sponsored by Recreation Dept of Chambersburg), located in parking lot next to Gartenberg Jewelry on South Main

*"Corks & Canvas" paintings by Sasha Coleman Arnett, Tresa Paul and Lauryn Hammond will be on display and available by silent auction bidding at the former Council for the Arts location, 159 South Main Street

*“Prints & Drawings by Penn’s Woods Printmakers”, a group of area artists who create etchings, monotypes, collagraphs and other hand-pulled prints, will be on display at 1 North Main Street (formerly Tito’s restaurant)

*Festival food vendors (the square) $

*Popcorn giveaway (sponsored by M&T Bank, 55 South Main St.)

Friday, Jan. 29

*Glass Routes LIVE glass blowing demonstrations on North Main, across from Bistro 71 in King Street Church parking lot (sponsored by Orrstown Bank)

*"Corks & Canvas" paintings by Sasha Coleman Arnett, Tresa Paul and Lauryn Hammond will be on display and available by silent auction bidding at the former Council for the Arts location, 159 South Main Street (opens at 10 am today)

*“Prints & Drawings by Penn’s Woods Printmakers will be on display at 1 North Main Street (formerly Tito’s restaurant, opens at 1 pm today)

*Smores!! Rhodes Grove Camp & Conference Center will be making smores near Kerrstown Square on South Main. Donations will be accepted to help fund Summer Camp Programs.

*Students of the Chambersburg Area Middle School South’s 8th Grade Art Club will display works of art at PA Counseling Services, 75 S. Main Street. There will be a variety of crafts and games for children of all ages. For more information, call 717-926-7806

6-7 p.m.

*Cha Cha and Fox Trot Dance Workshop with Frank Hancock at Central Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall on the square. $

6- 8 p.m.

*Blown-Contemporary Glass Art Exhibit Opening Reception at the new location of the Council for the Arts, 81 North Main Street

7- 10 p.m.

*Snowfall Ball (sponsored by Salzman Hughes, P.C.) with Showcase Dance at 8:00 pm "Fast to Faster – American Fast Dances from the Charleston to Hip Hop" at the Central Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall on the square. $

Saturday, Jan. 30

8-11 a.m.

*Pancake Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, ham, pancakes and beverages. Adults- $5.00, children under 10- $2.00,Trinity Episcopal Church in parish hall to the rear of the church. 58 S. Second St. Ticket available at Ludwigs Jewelers $

9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

*9th Annual ArtFest at IceFest, at a NEW location, on South Main Street. Watch as regional artists create works of art from 9am-4pm, followed by auction at 4:30 of works created that day to benefit “For the Kids of Chambersburg”. Admission is free. Cumberland Valley School of Music is offering a variety of FREE music and coloring activities at Central Presbyterian Church on the Square

* Student Art Contest at The Old Jail, 175 E. King Street. $1 admission goes to student prizes.

10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

* Icing on the Cake $ - 10am-5pm at the Capitol Theatre Wood Center, world class cake decorators compete using this year’s theme “Super Heroes,” Take photos with live super heroes. Those in costume get a free vote! A silent auction will take place, Winner and People’s Choice will be announced after a brief break at 3:30pm. FREE cake 4-5pm
