CVSM hosts 'Havana Nights' dinner dance

CHAMBERSBURG – Cumberland Valley School of Music will host its annual dinner dance and auction Feb. 27 at The Orchards, 1580 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg. The event, themed “Havana Nights,” kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with a champagne welcome followed by a three-course, Cuban-inspired meal by Chef Mike Kalathas; live and silent auctions; a raffle; a cigar bar; and music and entertainment provided by the Kenny i band.

“This year’s dinner dance features great food and music with some new, theme-inspired additions to enhance the evening,” said Sue McLaughlin, dinner dance committee chair, in a press release announcing the event.

"The committee has striven to make ‘Havana Nights’ a successful fundraiser for CVSM and an evening of fun for our attendees,” McLaughlin said.

Festivities will include live and silent auctions plus a raffle of a 14-karat, white gold, Art Deco-style diamond ring donated by Ludwig Jewelers of Chambersburg.  Dance instructor José Ricardo from Shippensburg will be on hand to demonstrate and teach salsa dancing.

In addition, CVSM has teamed up with Boswell’s Pipe & Tobacco, Chambersburg, to provide a cigar bar that will open after the live auction ends. Wine and beer are complimentary with the purchase of a ticket.

Items available for bidding at the auction include:

-a private one hour plane ride for three – route of your choice.

-a Syren Signature II Electric Guitar from Tregan Guitars.

-a guided Antietam battlefield tour and lunch at a historic home with Steven Stotelmyer, Civil War author.

-a whiskey lover's basket.

-several overnight getaway packages.

-a private in-home or event concert with The Hello Strangers, a local band that Rolling Stone magazine listed as one of the "30 Great Country Albums of 2015 You Probably Didn't Hear."  The indie-folk band includes CVSM alumni who will be in attendance at the dinner dance on Feb. 27.

Many new auction items are being received daily and a completed list will be posted on the CVSM website (www.cvsmusic.org/) closer to the event date. John Kohler of Gateway Gallery Auction will serve as auctioneer for the short live auction.  All proceeds benefit CVSM, a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization.  Cash, checks and major credit cards will be accepted.

“Havana Nights” is both a ceebration and a fundraiser for the music school. This year, the live auction will also include a “Fund-a-Need,” where attendees can pledge contributions to the school’s scholarship fund. CVSM awards both need-based and merit-based scholarships to area students.

Tickets are $95 per person or $700 for a table for eight.  Tickets can be purchased at 717-261-1220 or online at www.cvsmusic.org/product/dinner-dance/.

CVSM is marking its 20th year of hosting the event. F&M Trust is continuing as a dedicated corporate sponsor, a role it adopted with the event’s inception in 1996.  The dinner dance and auction is now CVSM’s largest fundraising event of the year.
