Museum Consort explores shades of love

HAGERSTOWN, MD. – The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, 401 Museum Drive, Hagerstown, Maryland, will present the Museum Consort in recital at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14.  The concert, titled "The Many Shades of Love," is free and open to the public.

Among the selections, "Fata le Parte by Juan del Encina" (1568 - c.1529) describes a “crime passionelle” when a husband finds his wife with a Spaniard.  There are songs of unrequited courtly love as in "Greensleeves" (a staple tune in the Renaissance), in which the singer’s amorous intentions are rebuffed by Lady Greensleeves. "At Night," a folksong by Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), is quiet and gently saying “Tis I who am coming your heart to win.” Love never goes out of style, even as the swing standard, "You Made Me Love You" by Monace, McCarthy Arr Davis, says, “I didn’t want to do it!”

Members of the consort include Russell Johnson, Naomi Styer, David Styer  Jeffrey Clise and Kathy Barr.
