Go wild with Jack Hanna and friends
SHIPPENSBURG - Jungle Jack Hanna returns to Shippensburg's H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center Friday, Feb. 26, with an array of interesting and unusual creatures.
Recognized as "America’s favorite zookeeper," Hanna's enthusiasm and hands-on approach to wildlife conservation has won him acclaim as a conservationist, television personality and author.
Formerly director of the Columbus Zoo where he still serves as director emeritus, Hanna became nationally recognized by television audiences following appearances in the 1980s on "Good Morning America" and "The Late Show with David Letterman." He has since appeared on "Larry King Live," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," "Hollywood Squares," "The Maury Show," "Entertainment Tonight," Fox News and CNN and other programs.
"The animals that I bring on television are ambassadors to their cousins in the wilds," Hanna said in the biography which appears on his website, www.jackhanna.com.
Hanna has created three nationally televised programs: "Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventures," which ran for 10 years and is still in syndication; the Emmy Award winning "Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild"; and a new show on ABC, "Jack Hanna’s Wild Countdown."
He was instrumental in founding Columbus Zoo's grassroots conservation project, Partners in Conservation, which has been studying mountain gorillas in Rwanda as well as supporting the people who live around them for a quarter of a century. Hanna and his wife, Suzi, have a home in Rwanda that they visit yearly to interact with the local residents, visit an orphanage that the Columbus Zoo helps to support and hike among the mountain gorillas in the Virunga Mountains.
His Luhrs Center appearance will include a large video screen on stage so the audience can get close to all of the animal "ambassadors."
