Explore battle cyclorama in Gettysburg
If you've visited Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center, you've probably gazed at its awe-inspiring cyclorama painting, a massive depiction of the Battle of Gettysburg.
An upcoming program at the center will delve into the oil-on-canvas masterpiece's history, as well as the storied past of the cyclorama genre.
"An Evening with the Painting" is a special after-hours, monthly program presented by the Gettysburg Foundation's Sue Boardman, a licensed battlefield guide, author and historian. Boardman will discuss the cyclorama art form, the Battle of Gettysburg painting and the years-long effort to conserve the painting, according to a news release from the foundation.
The program lasts about two hours and begins in the Ford Motor Company Fund Education Center. It includes a question and answer session, extended time on the platform to observe the painting in full light and a look under the diorama to learn how the illusion comes to life.
