Spring Grove hosting underwater Easter egg hunt

Local children will explore new depths at Spring Grove Area District's annual underwater egg hunt on Saturday.

The school district will hold the event, sponsored by Glatco Credit Union, at the Spring Grove Area High School swimming pool. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., and the hunt will start at 11 a.m.

“With the egg hunts that are outside, it all depends on the weather,” said Lisa Smith, the community relations coordinator of the Spring Grove Area School District. “Pretty much everyone does an outside egg hunt. This is a little bit different.”

The first 100 children registered will receive a gift bag. Children will be divided by age and swimming ability as they search for eggs on the pool deck or in the pool. Certain eggs found by the children will earn special prizes, said Smith.

The event is free of cost, and parents are encouraged to bring cameras and take pictures, especially since the Easter bunny will be in attendance, according to Smith.

Smith said the school district is fortunate for the support of Glatco, which allows them to hold events like the egg hunt that are free to the community to enjoy.

“We were very lucky that Glatco stepped forward and said they were taking care of the egg hunt,” said Smith. “We are very grateful to have that kind of support”

The Spring Grove Area School District will also hold a movie night at the pool later on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Smith said this event is great way for parents to get their kids to exercise while having fun.

“Kids and water just go together pretty much,” said Smith.
