'Swing into Spring' with the HMB Big Band


CHAMBERSBURG - Tap your feet, snap your fingers, maybe even dance in the aisles of the beautiful, historic Capitol Theatre as you "Swing into Spring" with one of the region’s most beloved big bands.

The 18-piece HMB Big Band, directed by Joel Guyton, takes the Capitol Theatre stage April 9.with the swing/jazz sounds of big band standards and favorites of the Count Basie, Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw orchestras, along with arrangements from modern musical styles.

Hagerstown vocalist Sheryl Keefauver will be featured with the band, and kicking off the show will be The Slide Show trombone group under the leadership of Lynn Lerew.

Slide Show is a trombone quartet - three tenors and a bass - that also includes electric bass guitar and trap drum set on some of the selections. Formed in the mid '90s, the group has entertained at the Brass Band Music Festival in Gettysburg, the Fall Festival in downtown Chambersburg and for various private functions in and around the area.

Slide Show's repertoire includes ballads, jazz, rock, marches and patriotic music. Members include David Wenerd, Eric Plum and Lynn Lerew (tenors); Neal Corwell, (bass); Bill Wilson (electric bass guitar); and Sam Hepfer (trap drums.) All of the players perform with other ensembles throughout the area and most are members of the Hagerstown Municipal Band.

HMB Big Band Director Joel Guyton is also the vice president of the band and a member of the trumpet section.
