Gettysburg Free Comic Book Day specials

It's almost Christmas for comic book fans.

The 15th annual Free Comic Book Day is around the corner, and newly opened Fourcorners Comics in Gettysburg is participating, according to a news release from owner Arthur Sanchez.

Fourcorners Comics opened in October 2015 and offers trade paperbacks, action figures, back issues and new issues of comic books, Sanchez said in a previous interview. The store also supplies boxes and bags to keep the books in good condition, and 90 percent of the shop's inventory is the owner's personal collection.

In honor of Free Comic Book Day on May 7, Sanchez is hosting numerous activities that include face painting and superhero appearances. In addition, special guest artist Khoi Pham will be in attendance for signings.

Pham is a freelance illustrator whose works include Marvel's "X-Men Legacy," "Spider-Man" and "Daredevil," among other popular comics, the news release states. He'll be sketching and signing books from 9 a.m. to noon.

Free Comic Book Day will act as Fourcorners Comics grand opening, as Sanchez plans to branch out from weekend hours and open the shop full time.

"We're excited to bring Free Comic Book Day to Gettysburg. This event introduces so many new readers to comics," he said. "That's part of our mission here to bring these great stories and exciting art to the community."

His store will also offer several discounts during the event, and Sanchez plans to provide Adams County Library with a percentage of the proceeds from the day.

"This will be our first chance to really bring in the comic book artists and writers to the store that will hopefully inspire a new generation," said Sanchez.
