'Kiss Me, Kate' is onstage in Hagerstown

HAGERSTOWN, MD. - Performances of the 10-time Tony Award-winning Cole Porter musical "Kiss Me, Kate" continue on Friday and Saturday evenings through April 23 at The Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater, 44 North Potomac St. Rear, Hagerstown, Maryland.

The musical, which became Porter's biggest Broadway hit, takes you behind the scenes of a production of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" - except this version stars a feuding divorced couple. The sour exes turn their personal drama into fodder for an onstage war of the sexes unlike any other.

With catchy songs like "So in Love," "Another Op'nin,' Another Show," "Too Darn Hot" and "Brush Up Your Shakespeare," the musical celebrates Shakespeare while also celebrating the joy and madness of working in the theater.

Take a trip back to the golden age of Hollywood when a show that the The New York Times called at "milestone musical."

The Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater's version of "Kiss Me, Kate" is directed by Laura J. Martin and Scott Ruble with music direction by Jonas Dawson and choreography by Ray C. Shaw. The Mack's Theatricals' production is Shawn and Laura Martin's 16th since they took ownership of the theater in January 2015. They serve, respectively, as the theater's producing artistic director and managing director.

Tickets to the show, which is preceded by a dinner buffet and cash bar, can be purchased online at www.washingtoncountyplayhouse.comor by calling 301-739-7469. Adult tickets are $42 and children's ticket (for ages 5-12) are $22.
