MERCERSBURG - The Mercersburg Area Community Chorus will perform its spring concert series at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, and at 3 p.m. on  Sunday, April 17, in the Irvine Memorial Chapel on the campus of Mercersburg Academy, 300 E. Seminary St., Mercersburg.

The program features the Faure "Requiem,"  "Serenade to Music" by Vaughan Williams, and various anthems. The 115-voice choir will be joined by a 35-member professional orchestra directed by Richard Rotz.

Soloists include Elisabeth Turchi, soprano, and Jesse Neace, bass.

Turchi has performed with the Pittsburgh Opera, Opera Camerata of Washington, D.C., Atlantic Coast Opera Festival, Harrisburg Opera, New Opera Festival of Rome, and Gotham Chamber Opera.  Her concert engagements include a European tour of Haydn’s "Creation" with two-time Grammy winner Robert Page and his Festival Singers, her Massachusetts’ Mechanics Hall debut with Handel’s "Messiah," and the Mozart "Mass in C Minor" at Shippensburg’s Luhrs Performing Arts Center.

Neace, a member of the U.S. Army Chorus, has performed with Knoxville Opera Company, Imperial Symphony Orchestra, La Musica Lirica, and the National Philharmonic. His rendition of our National Anthem is regularly requested for professional sporting events across the country. As a way to give back to the community, he is a music teacher for NoteBusters, a nonprofit company that produces two shows a year for elementary-aged children in the District of Columbia.

Admission to the concerts is free, though a free-will offering is taken. Seating is limited, so early arrival is recommended. For more information call 717-328-2324 or visit mercersburgchorus.org.

The Mercersburg Area Community Chorus  performs major choral-orchestra compositions each year in December and April.
