Paul McCartney coming to Hersheypark Stadium

Rumors were buzzing on social media Tuesday night as to what music icon would possibly be making a stop to the sweetest place on earth. It was rumored to be Paul McCartney - as strongly hinted via the Hershey Concerts Twitter account.

Those rumors were confirmed Wednesday morning by Hershey Entertainment and Live Nation at a news conference outside Hersheypark Stadium.

The legendary musician is coming to Hershey Tuesday, July 19 for a 7:30 p.m. show, as part of his One On One Tour.

"It’s tremendous to have an artist like Paul McCartney perform here in Hershey,” said Mark Moyer, Derry Township supervisor. “This caliber of performer continues to showcase Hershey as a premier destination and entertainment hub.”

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, April 22 and will be available at ticketmaster.com, HersheyEntertainment.com, Giant Center Box Office or by phone at 800-745-3000. American Express Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, April 18 through 10 p.m. Thursday, April 21. Ticket pricing ranges from $19.50 to $250.00, according to Ticketmaster.

Although the iconic performer has made stops in Pennsylvania before, this will be the first stop to Hershey for McCartney.

“Hershey was really something that appealed to him for this next tour,” said John Hampton, Senior Vice President of Booking for Live Nation. “The fact that he had not been to Hershey before, the venue (Hersheypark Stadium), and from what he’d heard of Hershey and the entertainment resort, I think that all appealed to him.”

And for anyone who comes to experience this thrill of a lifetime under the stars at Hersheypark Stadium, the fan will get the full Paul McCartney experience.

“It’ll be his solo work, songs from his time as a member of ‘Wings,’ and as a Beatle,” said Rachel Spivac, also of Live Nation. “So fans will get a catalog of all his songs from the past 50 years.

The show will also feature state of the art audio and video technology with massive screens, lasers and fireworks to go along with his beloved music.

It wasn’t too long ago when McCartney last performed in the Keystone state, after just performing at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia in 2015, which he’ll again visit July 12 at Citizens Bank Park before coming to Hershey.

McCartney will also be making first-time appearances in other cities during the tour. The first stop is one of those first-time appearances, which is Fresno, Calif. that began the tour Wednesday. He’ll also make first-time stops in Little Rock, Ark. and in Sioux Falls, S.D.

As part of the announcement of one of the biggest shows to come to chocolatetown, the New Horizons Choir at Milton Hershey School performed one of McCartney’s greatest hits from his time with “The Beatles”, “All You Need Is Love.”

“It was very, very exciting. To be invited was a really great honor,” said Cristal Sheaffer, choir director. “They asked us to perform that particular piece, so we put it together in a couple of rehearsals.”

McCartney headlines what will be a memorable concert season around the area that includes more of some of the biggest names in music, such as Elton John, Beyoncé, Def Leppard, Carrie Underwood, Nick Jonas, Demi Lovato, Janet Jackson, Luke Bryan, Zac Brown Band and others.
