Battlefield Brew Works opens tasting room
While it might not have the salty ocean air or warm, sandy shores of Ocean City, Steinwehr Avenue is the boardwalk of Gettysburg, according to Dan Kulick.
Ripe with local businesses, the street sees flurries of walking and driving traffic, and Kulick, the brain behind Battlefield Brew Works, wants to capitalize on it.
Battlefield Brew Works' tasting and tap room is now open at 45 Steinwehr Ave., where patrons have their pick of at least three beers, five spirits and homemade sodas, as well as bottles to-go. The bar is an effort to bolster business at the brand's flagship location at 248 Hunterstown
Road in Straban Township.
"The idea is to give people a taste here, and send them over to the main location," Kulick said.
Kulick, who has 15 years of experience in the industry, got his start as a homebrewer and set off on a mission to make the best beer he could brew.
Battlefield Brew Works' brewery debuted in 2013, with the Spirits of Gettysburg Distillery following in 2014. Today, i
ts arsenal of alcoholic beverages includes various ales and IPA's, as well as the Lincoln Lager, Double Dark Chocolate Bock, vodka, Discount Unicorn White Whiskey and Burnt Bum Rum.
In addition to single-serve drinks, the tasting and tap room's menu will include flights of three beer samples and flights of four spirit samples, manager Tammy Willet said. They also plan to run a mixed drink of the day, she said.
Chips, pretzels and other snacks will be available, Kulick said.
Gettysburg's craft brew scene is still up and coming, Kulick said, so the Steinwehr location provides the public another option in town for trying out locally made drinks. He is hopeful it will draw more people into the area to see what else Gettysburg has to offer.
"A high tide raises all ships."
