Chambersburg's First Fridays begin May 6

CHAMBERSBURG – The Downtown Business Council and Council for the Arts of Chambersburg present the first of the summer’s First Friday celebrations from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, May 6, in downtown Chambersburg.

The evening will feature the start of Chambersburg’s first ever “First Friday Bingo."

“We are so excited to present 'First Friday Bingo,'" said Penny Shaul of the Downtown Business Council, in a press release announcing the event. “Participants can visit downtown businesses to complete lines on a bingo card... All confirmed bingos will enter you into drawings for cash prizes each First Friday, and the grand prize during October's event. Check out our Facebook pages for more details.”

Live music and artisans downtown are a feature of all First Fridays, and on May 6 Main Street will be filled at 6:30 pm with Women In Need’s “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event, with registration beginning at 6 p.m. Chambersburg’s Memorial Square Fountain will be turned on for the season with a ceremony just preceding the walk.

Live music by Soleil can be enjoyed on the Courthouse Plaza from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  Soleil is Laurie Matlock and Tresa Paul, friends and musical partners for more than 20 years, who have performed at a variety of venues in the tri-state area. They play a mix of folk, funk, indie country and soul, and are seasoned songwriters whose styles reflect their musical influences. They top it all off with beautiful vocal harmonies, funky rhythms and infectious songs. Face painting and an interactive art banner for youngsters will also be featured on the Courthouse Plaza.

The Franklin County Photographers Club will roam the streets with impromptu photographers from 5-8 p.m.

Meet-the-artists receptions will be held for two new exhibitions of local art: the Council for the Arts, 81 North Main St., will host a meet-the-artists reception for their new show “Contemporary Concepts” from 5-7 p.m., and The Foundry artists’ co-op will present paintings by Rebecca Pollard Myers, at 100 S. Main St. from 5-8 p.m.
