Marty Haggard plays for Wounded Warriors in Juniata Co.

MIFFLINTOWN - The Make Mine Country Band will present a benefit concert for PA Wounded Warriors on Saturday, April 30, at the CJEMS Building along Route 35 near Mifflintown.

The concert will feature country music artist Marty Haggard, son of the late country music legend Merle Haggard, in a tribute show to his dad. Performances by the Make Mine Country Band, Floyd Sheets, Amber Foose Miller and Gary Swartz are also scheduled.

Marty Haggard has been following in his dad's musical footsteps for years. Marty feels privileged to have a father who he considers "the best country singer/songwriter ever," and enjoys the opportunities he has had because of his family's success. Marty grew up in Bakersfield, California, where he was surrounded by country music's biggest stars and celebrities. Having those influences growing up, Marty also turned to singing and songwriting as a career. From 1983 to 1985, he began touring with his dad and signed with various record labels. Taking a break from his own music, Marty decided to record a tribute album dedicated to Merle in 2010. He has since traveled, playing Merle's music.

Also slated at the benefit is a silent auction and 50/50 drawings. Food will be available.

Tickets are $12 and will be available at the door. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m., with Marty scheduled to take the stage at 8 p.m. Seating is on a first come, first served basis. For more information, call 717-543-1157 or email makeminecountryband@yahoo.com.
