Local artist featured at The Foundry's first First Friday
CHAMBERSBURG - The Foundry, Chambersburg’s artist cooperative, will host an array of events on May 6 as part of the First Friday festivities held downtown. The evening will feature a meet-the-artist reception from 5 to 8 p.m. with Rebecca Pollard Myers, who is opening her month-long exhibit, "Paintings by Rebecca Pollard Myers,” and a performance from local band Weird Year from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The corner retail store at 100 S. Main St. will be open May 6 from noon to 8 p.m., with the First Friday events happening 5 to 8 p.m.
Other events at The Foundry for First Friday include artist demonstrations from Foundry members Tindall Forge, Raber Designs, Joie de Vivre Designs and others throughout the evening, as well as make-and-take projects and other activities.
The May artist exhibit featuring work by Myers will be on view at The Foundry from May 4 through 28.
Inspired by nature
“I am inspired by organic forms that have interesting textures and rhythmic patterns,” Myers said in a press release announcing the show. “Reptiles and Jellyfish are favorites. The contrast between the rough scales and beautiful color of iguanas and the fluid, transparent softness of the jellyfish is fascinating!”
Myers was born and raised in Arlington, Virginia, and spent many Saturdays at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington D.C. She received her bachelor's degree in studio art from the University of Maryland, art education certification from Millersville University, Master of Science Degree in Communication/Journalism from Shippensburg University and studied various media at Philadelphia’s University of the ARTs.
Since retiring from a career in art education, she has concentrated on painting and mixed media investigations. She is a member of the Franklin County Art Alliance, the Adams County Council of the Arts, Carlisle Arts Learning Center, the Art Association of Harrisburg and the Maryland Federation of Art. Her studio is in Shippensburg.
In addition to her work at The Foundry, Myers’ paintings are currently on exhibit at Widener School of Law, Harrisburg; Carlisle Arts Learning Center; and New Day Yoga Studio in Shippensburg. More of her work can be seen at www.rebeccamyers.artistwebsites.com.
