Center City Hagerstown gets the blues June 2-5
HAGERSTOWN, MD. - Music, fun and a unique atmosphere are coming to City Center Hagerstown as part of the 21st Annual Western Maryland Blues Fest June 2 -5, with events scheduled around the Arts & Entertainment District of Hagerstown.
Hagerstown’s annual summer bash will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 2, with the free “Blues Prelude” concert in University Plaza, located beside the University System of Maryland-Hagerstown. Mary Ann Redmond Band will headline this free concert with a performance from 5-7 p.m. Available seating is limited, so attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.
From 5-8 p.m., attendees can visit the Washington County Arts Council, 34 S. Potomac St., for an opening reception of an exhibit featuring the art of Blues Fest 2016 poster artist Larry “Poncho” Brown. The winning entry, together with the “honorable mention” entries from Blues Fest 2016 Children’s T-Shirt Contest, will also be on display.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3, Blues Fest kicks off its first day of multi-artist entertainment with “Lotta Blues Kickoff” city’s Central Parking Lot with Anthony Rosano & The Conqueroos; Albert Castiglia; and Mike Zito and the Wheel.
On Saturday, June 4, the twin-stage “Downtown House Party” from noon -10 p.m.features the Mike Westcott Band, Selwyn Birchwood, Ron Holloway and his band, Quinn Sullivan, Amy Helm and the Handsome Strangers, Albert Cummings, Mingo Fishtrap and Ana Popovic.
On Sunday, June 5, Blues Fest gives back to the community with its free “Family Blues Picnic” from noon - 5 p.m. in Hagerstown’s City Park, featuring Rudy and the Bluefish, East Coast Stroke, the Jeff Fetterman Band and Hamilton Loomis.
Blues Fest 2016 is family-friendly, featuring “Kids Jam Too” children’s activities at City Park on Sunday.
