Big artsy weekend coming in Waynesboro


WAYNESBORO - Watch, listen and create at a range of free arts activities taking place in Waynesboro June 9-13:

June 9

At 2 p.m. in Gallery 50, 50 West Main Street, Curator and Director Marjorie Tressler will be starting a new series of Thursday gallery talks in Gallery 50. Each week will feature a discussion on the various regional and local artists featured in Gallery 50, including information on their background, latest works and art genre.

Tressler teaches art locally and has conducted classes at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, where her portraits were featured in a solo show in 1993. She is a former student of the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied with several nationally known and prominent local artists over the last 35 years. Tressler has been Gallery 50’s lead curator and director since 2013.

June 10

Outside, it's Summer in the Square from 5:30-8 p.m. in  Center Square, Main Street. Local jazz singer Kerensa Gray will be performing. The rain site will be Gallery 50, 50 West Main Street. For more information, call 717-655-2915.

Gray is the winner of the 20th Annual Billie Holiday Vocal Competition and one of the area’s most popular performers, Gray is often compared to jazz icons such as Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, and Diana Krall. She has shared the stage with artists such as Stellar Award Winner Isaiah Thomas and opened for Grammy and Dove award winners CeCe Winans and Vickie Winans.

Inside, it's Wine Down Friday from 5:30-8 p.m. in Gallery 50. Wayne Driscoll, a member of the band Lucky Punk, will be playing in Gallery 50. Driscoll will be bringing his bold and energetic approach to the electric guitar. His performances include a variety of original songs and classic covers with a unique spin. June 11

From 1-3 p.m. at 42 West ARTS Co-Op & Gallery, 42 West Main Street, co-op member Ed Beard will be demonstrating wood burning designs of eagles and feathers. For more information, visit the co-op website at www.42westarts.com or call 717-762-8394.

Beard has been a woodworker for the past 50 year and has exhibited in art shows and galleries since 1966. He is a graduate of St. John’s College and the University of Florida and is a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman, the Lincoln Highway Heritage Group, and a member of Woodworking Advisory Board.

Denny Bingaman is a native of Waynesboro who uses wildlife imagery as a source of inspiration for much of his art, including photography and cold metal casting.
