History of the Hagerstown Fair on display


HAGERSTOWN, MD. - A July 9 lecture by local collector and historian Dick Helfrich  highlights a summer exhibit on the 125-year history of the Hagerstown Fair at the Washington County Historcial Society's Miller House Museum, 135 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, Maryland.

Helfrich will be sharing highlights of his collection and stories from the days of the Hagerstown Fair, a local tradition that became one of the largest agricultural shows in the country.

Tickets are $5, but free for members of the Washington County Historical Society. Special ticket price includes museum admission on the day of the lecture. Space for the 2 p.m. lecture is limited; call 301-797-8782 or email info@washcomdhistoricalsociety.org to reserve seats.

The complementary exhibit, “The Great Fair,” takes visitors back in time when the fair was a staple of community life with a display of documents, photographs and artifacts. The exhibit continues through August 31 and will be open the day of the lecture.
