Downtown York Hidden Art Tour: Tickets selling fast

As you walk through downtown York, it’s hard to miss the beautiful and historic murals and architecture throughout the city.

But chances are you haven’t seen it all.

That’s why York enthusiast JJ Sheffer and State Rep. Kevin Schreiber are teaming up to lead a Downtown Hidden Art Tour this fall.

Sheffer and Schreiber have been leading the tour twice a year for 10 years, Sheffer said. But Thursday, Sept. 15 will be your only chance to join a public tour in 2016.

The two-hour behind-the-scenes walking tour will give the public an inside look at some of the city’s art and architectural treasures at historic downtown properties, according to a news release. It will step off from Continental Square at 6 p.m.

This year’s tour stops have not yet been confirmed, Sheffer said, but in previous years, the tour has included the frescos and architecture at York Water Company and Martin Library as well as artwork at local galleries and arts spaces like Working Class, Sign of the Wagon and Just Brenda Studio Gallery.

Tour-goers can expect to visit three inside locations and learn about the art and architecture of York’s past, present and future at other outdoor downtown spots.

“It’s a little different every time we do it because of the present and future aspect of it,” Sheffer said.

The event is limited to 30 participants, so get your tickets while you can. The tour will likely sell out fast.

Tickets cost $20 and are available at yorkhiddenarttour.eventbrite.com. Proceeds go to Downtown Inc.
