York Fair food featured on Cooking Channel

Just in time for summer fair and carnival season, the Cooking Channel will feature food from the 2015 York Fair on an episode of “Carnival Eats” Thursday.

The episode, titled “Funnel Cakes and Fried Fudge,” will air at 9 p.m. on channel 232 (DirecTV), channel 122 (Xfinity/Comcast) and channel 113 (Dish), according to Michael Froehlich, general manager at the York Fair.

“Carnival Eats,” hosted by Noah Cappe, features unusual culinary creations found at carnivals, state fairs and festivals across the United States and Canada. Since it first aired in 2014, the show has filmed at more than 100 fairs and festivals.

The show filmed at the 250th York Fair on Sept. 16 and 17.

The episode will feature a Burger Bomb Pretzel from Uncle Paul’s Stuffed Pretzels, the Taste of Christmas dish from Danny’s Concessions, Chicken in a Waffle Cone from Fork Free Chicken and Waffles and Apple Pie Funnel Cake from Savory’s Funnel Cakes, series producer Jennifer Horvath said.

The Taste of Christmas dish is something “Carnival Eats” has never seen before, Horvath said. It’s roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, corn and stuffing rolled into a ball, deep fried in corn dog batter and served with cranberry sauce.

The Burger Bomb Pretzel is also an unusual item, featuring a pretzel stuffed with hamburger, bacon and macaroni and cheese and topped with a fried egg.

During the episode, four chefs from each of the four vendors will talk about the inspiration behind the food and show Cappe how to make the dish.

Thursday's episode will also feature Five Alarm Fried Fudge, Steuben Cuban and a Rainbow Sugar Waffle from the Steuben County Fair in upstate New York.
