Out and About: See Lewis Black in Hershey


Two big events coming to Hershey Theatre, a big masquerade ball, and a book sale. More on those events and another look at what’s happening around the area.

A Grammy Award-winning stand-up comedian is coming to Hershey Theatre. Lewis Black and his all new show “The Emperor’s New Clothes: The Naked Truth,” is Sunday, May 8, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $42.50, $49.50 and $69.50. Black will be bringing his rare comedy considered to be a release of anger and disillusionment for his audience. The wristband policy is in effect, for the first day of on-sale only.

Just four days later, the Tedeschi Trucks Band makes a stop to cap off their tour featuring their new third full-length LP “Let Me Get By,” Thursday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. Amy Helm and The Handsome Strangers will also join TTB. Tickets are $49.50, $59.50 and $75.00. The band is led by the husband-and-wife team of singer-guitarist Susan Tedeschi, and guitar virtuoso Derek Trucks.

Bring your appetite and dancing shoes to chocolatetown. The “Shall We Dance Benefit Gala: The Masquerade Ball!” takes place Saturday, May 14 from 5:30 to 10:45 p.m. at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center. The event will feature dinner and dancing with The Hershey Symphony Orchestra and The Hershey Symphony Big Band, including live music all night, beginner dance lessons, dinner, exhibition dancing, a silent auction and cash bar. Dress is black-tie optional. All proceeds benefit the music and outreach of the Hershey Symphony.

If you’re looking for new books to read, head over to the Annual Book Sale of the Friends of the Lebanon Community Library. The sale is Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Library lawn, located at 125 N. Seventh St. in Lebanon. There will be a large variety of novels, non-fiction and children’s books.

The Lebanon Count Choral Society has two sets of choral rehearsals are happening Monday. The first is for the LCCS Children’s Chorus, with rehearsal from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Hebron United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Walnut Street in Lebanon. For more information, contact Elsa at 977-7196. Then rehearsals for the main choir will be at 7:30 p.m. The choir is also looking for new singers, but no audition is necessary. For more information, contact Beth at 813-1706.

The next day, Tuesday, May 10, the Lebanon Singing Cedar Barbershop Chorus will be rehearsing at 7:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, located at 28 N. Ninth St. in Lebanon. Male voices are welcome. For more information, call 866-5154.

The Greater Harrisburg Chorus of sweet Adelines International is also rehearsing Tuesday, May 10. It will be held at the Quentin United Church of Christ from 7 to 10 p.m. All are invited to visit or join in. The chorus is a fun, competitive organization for women who love to sing. “Check-mate” with the Allen Theatre Chess Club. If you’re interested in playing, meet at the Allen Theatre and Coffee House from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 10. The theater is located at 36 East Main Street in Annville.

Perfect your observation skills with “Seeing Nature” at Governor Dick Environmental Center. The event is Saturday, May 14, at 2 p.m. You’ll use your perfected skills to find the treasures in nature you’ve been missing. There is a $5 fee for your own nature journal.
