Hip Baltimore neighborhood to host Hampdenfest


Hampden, the hip Baltimore neighborhood known for vintage stores, boutiques and cool eateries, will welcome locals and visitors for its free arts and music festival Sept. 19.

Hampdenfest will be held 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on and around West 36th Street where merchants will throw open their doors and arts and crafts booths will line Chestnut, Elm, Roland and Hickory avenues.

Three stages on West 36th Street will host music and art performances including the School of Rock Baltimore, Bosley, the Hampden Idol competition, and a host of local bands. Look for the pie eating contest, toilet bowl race, an activity area for children and emerging artists exhibit.

Food and beverage vendors will include Blacksauce Kitchen, Charm City Cakes, Kinderhook Snacks, The Brewer's Art, Union Craft Brewing, and others.

Parking is available on neighborhood streets, at Robert Poole Middle School, 1300 W. 36th St., and at Johns Hopkins at Keswick lot accessed from 37th Street.

The event is sponsored by the Hampden Village Merchants Association and the Hampden Community Council.
