Cirque du Soleil brings ‘Avatar’ show to Baltimore

Cirque du Soleil is giving its signature style to the alien world of James Cameron’s “Avatar” for its new show, “Toruk – The First Flight.”

The world tour is coming to the Royal Farms Arena, 201 W. Baltimore St., Baltimore, June 8-12. Tickets for the family-friendly show are $31.50 and up and go on sale to the public Feb. 26 at www.cirquedusoleil.com/toruk or www.ticketmaster.com.

“Toruk” envisions a world set thousands of years before the events depicted in the “Avatar” film. The word Toruk, in the Na’vi language, refers to the leonopteryx, the mighty red and orange predator that rules the Pandoran sky. The creature is crucial to the Na’vi clans’ sense of destiny and interconnectedness – and is about to be ridden for the very first time by a Na’vi.

The immersive multimedia show presents the lush flora and rich textures of the setting, while the acrobatics and choreography bring the story to life.
