Kitefest returns April 11 to Chambersburg's Nitterhouse Memorial Park

CHAMBERSBURG >> Flying kites is an important activity in many cultures, and KiteFest on April 11 helps children honor a cultural heritage while learning about electricity and aerodynamics.

Chambersburg Hispanic American Center will have its annual National Kite Flying Month family event from 1 to 5 p.m. at Nitterhouse Memorial Park, 296 W. Washington St.

Parking and entry to the event are free. A free kite will be given to each of the first 50 families that don't have one.

Information will be available on why a kite flies, Ben Franklin's experiment with electricity and stories about how kite flying advanced the history of flight.

Food will be on sale at the park's concession stand but families may take their own.

The event is being organized by Chambersburg Rotary Interact Club, Wilson College, and CHAC.

For more information, call CHAC at 262-2480.
