Solve murder mystery 'Thirty Pieces of Silver' April 18 in Waynesboro Country Club

WAYNESBORO >> It's more fun than playing "Clue."

On April 18, amateur detectives will have an opportunity to solve a fictional murder mystery when St. Mary's Episcopal Church of Waynesboro presents "Thirty Pieces of Silver," a sleuthing event in Waynesboro Country Club, 11000 Country Club Road.

The social hour and buffet dinner begins at 7 p.m., during which time attendees will interact with a cast of characters consisting of St. Mary's parishioners. By quizzing the characters and other guests and listening for clues, participants can try to identify the culprits behind the evening's imaginary criminal activity. Prizes will be presented to the top three sleuths.

The mystery revolves around the disappearance of a set of 30 silver pieces presented to St. Mary's during the building of the church in 1914-15. The disappearance is followed by the mysterious death of one of the church's early rectors, the Rev. Sydney Silverspoon. Now, on the 100th anniversary of the building of St. Mary's, the missing silver has been found and a presentation is planned at the country club to announce the discovery. It should be a joyful occasion, but some people might die if the silver, and certain secrets, ever came to light.

Cost for the evening is $40 a person or $75 for a couple. The price includes dinner and admission to the event, which is a fundraiser for St. Mary's.

A cash bar will be available.
