Internationally renowned artists Scott and Elizabeth Christopher to exhibit works at Mercersburg Academy


MERCERSBURG >> Artwork by Scott Christopher and his wife, Elizabeth, will be on display April 25 through May 14 in Mercersburg Academy's Burgin Center for the Arts.

The show is composed of their individual abstract paintings and contemporary sculpture. Though stylistically different, both artists present works that are saturated in color and light.

The exhibition, titled "Art Is Wings," will feature large-scale paintings by both artists and displays their artistic collaboration as a team. Works

featured in the exhibition were created in their shared art studios in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City and Santa Fe, New Mexico.

A dessert reception with the artists at 7 p.m. April 25 will be open to the public in the Burgin Center.

Scott Christopher will be the featured speaker at a school meeting Friday and will work with the varsity baseball team, for which he played as a student.

A 1972 graduate of Mercersburg Academy, Scott Christopher attended the University of Maryland on a baseball scholarship and later signed with the Baltimore Orioles. He played parts of four seasons in the Orioles' minor-league system. Outside of the sport, he has established himself as an internationally acclaimed artist, photographer, writer and an ambassador for the arts.

Elizabeth Christopher is a recognized artist and published writer, having studied art history at the University of London and art, photography and poetry at Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine. She later moved to New York City to study design at the Parsons School of Design and the New York Botanical Garden, as well as creative writing at New York University. Assignments have taken her to more than 25 countries.
