CBT 15th anniversary finale June 13 is 'Sleeping Beauty'

CHAMBERSBURG >> Chambersburg Ballet Theatre will conclude its 15th anniversary season with two performances of the fairy tale classic, "The Sleeping Beauty" at 2 and 6:30 p.m. June 13 in Capitol Theatre, 159 S. Main St.

This historic classic ballet written by Russian ballet master Tchaikovsky will be performed in an abridged format of a prologue and two acts, with one intermission.

The story: The beautiful princess Aurora is, at her christening, put under a spell of death, to be carried out on her 16th birthday simply because the wicked fairy, Carabosse, has unwittingly been left off the guest list. However, the Lilac Fairy, who had not yet given her blessing and gift, alters the spell so that Aurora will not die but only sleep for 100 years, to be awakened by the kiss of a prince.

The drama that follows is both intriguing and romantic, with a battle between good and evil and a love that will endure forever.

The performances, sponsored by CBT's affiliated school, will feature a cast of more than 50 dancers, with 15 guest children from the school in supporting roles.

CBT dancer, Rachel Miller, a junior at Fannett-Metal High School, will perform the role of Princess Aurora.

Professional dancer Peter Doll, from Atlanta, Georgia, will perform as a guest artist, in the role of the prince.
