Chesapeake Bay-themed supper June 26 by Renfrew Institute features grand auction items

WAYNESBORO >> Renfrew Institute will host its 18th annual Chesapeake Bay-themed fundraiser supper June 26 at the Waynesboro Country Club, 11000 Country Club Road.

At 5:30 p.m., hors d'oeuvres will be served and the silent auction begins. A cash bar will be available and dinner is set to begin at 6:45 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit Renfrew Institute, a non-profit organization that provides environmental education and early farmstead life programs to area school children on the site of Renfrew Museum and Park, 1010 E. Main St.

Each year the menu reflects the Chesapeake Bay theme, this year with hardshell crabs, steamed clams, Assateague clam chowder, mixed greens salad, barbecued chicken, Skipjack pasta salad, dinner rolls and "sundaes by the shore" ice cream dessert.

The cost is $55 a person, $70 single patron, $110 a couple or $130 a couple patron. Reservations are required by June 19.

Live and silent auctions, coordinated by Donna Haugh, highlight the event.

"This year promises to offer some really great items for bidders," Haugh said. "We have custom note cards, hand crafted jewelry, garden items, paintings, books, deluxe hair, skin and nail care products and much more, with additional items coming in daily."

Haugh said the largest auction item is a Sunfish Minifish sailboat, donated by Chet and Betsy Mauk. It will be displayed throughout the evening and sold to the highest bidder during the live auction.

She also named other live auction items: Hand made quilts, a pagoda-style outdoor fireplace, overnight stays at resort areas, hand crafted pottery, a gourmet buffet dinner for 10, a guided hike through Michaux State Forest with a gourmet picnic and wine pairing for four people, home made soup and many more items. New this year is a private tour for up to eight people at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, Md.

The popular "Heads n' Tails" game will be back, offering prizes.
