A Cappella & Unplugged talent competition semi-finals June 27 in Capitol Theatre, Chambersburg

CHAMBERSBURG >> Franklin County Visitors Bureau and Capitol Theatre have joined together for a talent show that will bring the spirit of Chambersburg to life.

There won't be any electrical instruments or back-up in the two rounds of A Cappella & Unplugged, when competitive performers will bring the pure sound of voices, acoustic guitars and other acoustic instruments to the stage for an evening or two of inspiring performances.

Semi-final competition begins at 7 p.m. June 27 in Capitol Theatre, 159 S. Main St.

The competition, with finals taking place at 7 p.m. July 18 during ChambersFest, are part of this year's "1864 the Burning," the light show and story of the ransoming, burning and rebirth of Chambersburg that has attracted thousands of visitors in the past four years. Having passed the 150th commemoration of the Civil War, ChambersFest focuses now on the spirit of the people who rebuilt their hometown, Chambersburg.

"'1864, The Burning' commemorates Franklin County's history," said Janet Pollard, executive director of the visitors' bureau. "A Cappella & Unplugged celebrates the spirit of the people, who brought Chambersburg to life after the burning. What better way to uplift and remember than with music."

A panel of judges will narrow the competition at June 27 performance. Then, on July 1, the public may begin voting for its favorite performer on Facebook.com/FCVBen, where clips of the top semi-finalists can be viewed.

The top six performers — those with the most public votes for the June 27 competition — will have a chance to perform again on July 18 as part of the festivities leading up to "1864" before a champion is crowned.

In addition to receiving a grand prize, the champion will have a chance to perform on the steps of Franklin County Courthouse to open the light show.

Visitors to the event will be treated to a fun and glamorous evening.

Tickets are $15 a person and are available online at www.thecapitoltheatre.org or by calling the box office at 263-0202, Ext. 0. Tickets will also be available at Capitol Theatre on June 27.
