FAYETTEVILLE >> Water is essential for all life on the planet.

In Caledonia State Park, 101 Pine Grove Road, a series of programs about earth's water will take place in the amphitheater Friday and Saturday evenings.

• At 8:30 p.m. June 26, the video "Fresh Water" will be shown, following a tiny spring gradually growing into a great river.

• At 8:30 June 27, watch "Oceans Deep," a video of the least explored area of our planet, and home to some amazing creatures.

Take flashlights and seating both evenings. The amphitheater sits below site 14 in the Chinquapin Hill camping area.

Other Caledonia activities

June 25

8:30 a.m.: Hike 10 miles, heading out along the Raccoon Run Trail and returning by the Appalachian Trail; wear sturdy shoes

June 26, 27

2-4 p.m.: The Thaddeus Stevens Blacksmith Shop will be open to visitors both June 26 and 27. This old building witnessed slaves escaping north to freedom and Confederates marching east to Gettysburg. Learn more about Thaddeus Stevens.
