Chambersburg's First Friday is 'going to the dogs'

CHAMBERSBURG >> "Fido's First Friday" will be the theme of downtown Chambersburg's Sept. 4 First Friday event from 5 to 8 p.m.

This month's event is sponsored by Fitzgerald Auto Mall.

For details, call 717-263-8529 or visit Downtown Business Council's Facebook page.

Artists interested in participating should call 717-816-7568.

"We'll have dog-themed activities throughout downtown, and friendly, well-behaved dogs are welcome, on a leash," said First Friday coordinator Penny Shaul. Dog owners will be expected to clean up after their pets.

Featured will be vendors, artists and activities in the Chambers Fort Park parking lot on North Main Street, around the Square and on South Main Street. Attractions will include dog trainers, including Bonnie McChesney and Matt's Mutt's University, and a dog contest open to visitors with their dogs.

Chambers Fort Park will be the site of a dog wash. Dog-related vendors will include artists Hannah Stephey, Caricatures By Kent Roberts and Pet Portraits by Lynda, as well as Vintage Hounds Grooming Salon, Linda's Canine Kitchen, Jumpin' Jax Pet Supplies, Knick Knack Pittie Pack, Splish Splash, Creatures Great & Small, Bound by Designs, Davis Family Media and Bark Central.

Other First Friday artists — including Autumn Sullivan, Kaitlin Shadle, Barbara Randall and Photography by Robbie — will be in front of F&M Trust on the southeast quadrant of Memorial Square.

Participating nonprofits will include Cumberland Valley School of Music, Coyle Free Library and Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter.

Council for the Arts, 159 S. Main Street, will have a meet-the-artist reception from 5 to 7, where visitors can meet Chambersburg artist Paul Saberin, whose retrospective exhibit is on display. It includes his works from 1960 to 2015.

Capitol Theatre will present the movie "Frankenweenie" at 8.
