News bites: Auditions, new dinner theater show, gallery moving


Theater and art aficionados! Here are a few things coming up this week and beyond that you may want to know about.

Auditions for Christmas dinner theater show

HAGERSTOWN, MD. >> Antietam Recreation will be hosting auditions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday Sept. 19 for its Christmas show season. The dinner theater is seeking performers with various talents and workers with positive energy, who enjoy working in a team environment. It's a great opportunity for high school and college students or those looking for seasonal work.

Playhouse to present Sleeping Beauty

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD. >> The timeless tale of Sleeping Beauty will come to life on stage at The Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater and Children's Theater at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19 and October 3, 17 and 24.

The hour-long, musical show, preceded by a light lunch, features a script adapted by Susan Thornton with music by Cathie Porter-Borden and lyrics by Leon Borden. Music direction will be by Kelly West and Shannen Banzhoff with Choreography by Scott Ruble. The production will be directed by Nate LaDow.

All seats reserved at $15.00 (does not include beverages or gratuity).

SHAPE Gallery closing ahead of move to new location

SHIPPENSBURG >> The SHAPE Gallery, 20 W. King St., Shippensburg, will be closed for several months while the organization secures a new location.

SHAPE's Board of Directors has chosen not to host monthly art exhibits for fall 2015 in order to focus efforts in reorganizing and transitioning into new gallery space.

The gallery is expected to reopen in January 2016. SHAPE will continue to offer limited community arts programming during this transition period and is willing to collaborate with other organizations for cultural and educational events.
