News bites: Create fall artwork; another Oktoberfest, in Carlisle


Create a work of art inspired by fall colors

FORT LOUDON >> The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of State Parks, and Cowans Gap State Park are hosting an outdoor art class at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, with artist and former DCNR designer Nancy Mendes.

Participants will receive step-by-step instructions to create an art piece to take home that captures the landscape of the park and captures the fall colors. . All materials will be provided. A donation of $25 is requested.

U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center hosts Oktoberfest Oct. 8-11

CARLISLE >> The Carlisle Barracks Morale, Welfare and Recreation organization invites the public to Oktoberfest, 4-9 p.m. Oct. 8-11 at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center. 950 Soldiers Drive, Carlisle, featuring entertainment, games, activities for all ages and the tapping of the Official War College Brew.

The heritage center also will feature re-enacting groups in the historic buildings and trenches on the Army Heritage Trail from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday, where visitors can interact with the re-enactors, ask questions and view historic equipment from World War I, World War II, and Vietnam.

Admission and parking are free, and there will be food vendors and an arts and crafts fair on site.
