Rockhill Trolley Museum offers historic weekend at its Fall Spectacular

ROCKHILL FURNACE >> Children and adults are invited to ride aboard real antique electric trolleys when Rockhill Trolley Museum hosts its Fall Spectacular, its largest weekend of operating trolleys, this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10-11, at the museum on state Route 994.

Featured will be the Liberty Liner, a historic train built in 1941 by the St. Louis Car Company for the Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad, which provided high-speed electric service from downtown Chicago to downtown Milwaukee until 1963. This type of train was specifically designed to provide the most modern comforts of the time yet still be capable of operating in the tight confines of the Chicago elevated railways and with automobile traffic in the streets of Milwaukee.

The museum is open 10 a.m.-7:50 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Sunday.

On Saturday and Sunday:

• Ride the Liberty Liner and the new San Diego U2 light rail vehicle.

• See and ride rarely operated trolleys from Johnstown, York, Philadelphia, Scranton, Brazil and Portugal.

• Princess' scavenger hunt rides — help her find items on a list to receive a prize.

Saturday only:

• 11:15 a.m., artist Mitch Markovitz will be unveiling two paintings

• Night rides until the last Liberty Liner departs at 7:50 p.m.

Tickets are multi ride, $10-$15 adults, $8-$10 children.
