Where to see fireworks in Franklin Co.

Don't just sit inside this Fourth of July. Whether you are looking to just relax by a pool with your family, watch a parade, shop craft vendors, play games or even run a race - there's something for you in Franklin County and the surrounding area.

All of that leads up to fireworks at dusk, of course.

Chambersburg

Day in the Park

Thousands of people come out to Chambersburg Memorial Park each year for the annual Day in the Park event hosted by Cumberland Valley 21-Day Retreat. Food stands open around noon to serve hot dogs, fries, popcorn, snow cones, drinks and other treats and the annual car show will open around 1 p.m. To end the evening, fireworks will lift off from the park at dusk. In the event of rain, Day in the Park will be postponed until the following Saturday, July 9. The organization will post any updates on its Facebook page, facebook.com/21dayretreat/.

Shippensburg

4th of July Celebration

Shippensburg Community Parks and Recreation Authority will host its annual 4th of July Celebration at Shippensburg Memorial Park. The pool will be open, with free admission, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m, with pool games, including relay races, water balloon fight and more, starting at 2 p.m. At Veterans Stadium, inside the park, gates will open at 6 p.m. for spectators to get their spots ready to view the fireworks and other entertainment. Before the fireworks at 9:30 p.m., the Shippensburg Town Band will perform starting at 8 p.m., and the Annual Candy Scramble will go off at 9 p.m.

Waynesboro

19th annual Summer Jubilee

Waynesboro will host its 19th annual Summer Jubilee, a day full of free entertainment, exhibits and activities for all ages. Activities, which include a race for all ages, a craft show and other games and activities, will take place in the grass lot between East Main and East Second streets across from Waynesboro Hospital. The day kicks off with races for all ages - the 1-Mile Fun Run for kids and the Firecracker 5K for anyone age 8 and older. After the races, there will be a flag-raising ceremony and a performance of the National Anthem at 9:30 a.m. The craft show will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will feature children's games and activities, including a magic show, balloons, sand and spin art, face painting, a rock-climbing wall, inflatables and more. Spectators can also watch along East Main Street as the parade moves west through town, and then watch several of the performers set to appear on state. The event ends with the annual fireworks display, set off starting at 9:30 p.m. from the same lot where the rest of the event took place. For more information on registration and fees, go to summerjubilee.org/races.
