The mixture of extreme heat and the sounds of a baseball game means just one thing to Michael Bair: ice cream.

That's because Bair is the president of York Street Treat, a burger/ice cream shack located behind a little league baseball field.

"After the games sometimes the baseball teams come over," he said. "It's cool to see them all excited and coming over."

"We can get rushed," he added with a laugh.

York Street Treat is infamous for its soft raspberry, Bair said, but offers a wide variety of ice cream opportunities. Chocolate, vanilla or raspberry can all be enjoyed separately or as a twist. Although three ice cream flavors might sound limiting, they're not when you're choosing between sundaes, milkshakes, dipped cones and flurries.

Looking for something other than soft serve? Half Pint Creamery in McSherrystown and Gettysburg is the right place for you.

Half Pint Creamery isn't soft serve but isn't really a frozen yogurt either, owner Trish Motter said. Instead, it's about variety. Half Pint Creamery has about 140 different flavors and offers 36 at a time, she said.

If you want your favorite flavor, you better get there at the 11 a.m. opening. There are three gallons of each flavor offered to start the day. Once that flavor sells out, it's replaced with a new one, Motter said.

Half Pint Creamery offers your basic chocolate and vanilla, but gets crafty with unique flavors such as red velvet, peanut butter Oreo and Jolly Rancher, among others. Motter suggests getting a cone for your visit.

"If you order a cone it automatically comes as a waffle cone," she said. "We've had people tell us our cones are better than our ice cream."
